SPICE UP YOUR KITCHEN TO CELEBRATE NINTH ANNUAL WORLD EGG DAY
As The incredible edible egg™ is celebrated around the globe for the ninth annual World Egg Day on October 12, there’s no better time to enjoy eggs in your own home. A universal food, eggs are an important part of cuisines around the globe from Tortilla Española in Spain to Egg Foo Yung in China. No matter your familiarity with traditional ethnic dishes or cooking skill level, it’s easy to prepare egg dishes with international flavors.
Howard Helmer, the Guinness World Records “World’s Fastest Omelet Maker,” has traveled the world inspiring home cooks to try egg recipes and believes anyone can bring home the flavors of the world by knowing how to spice up a few easy recipes.
“You don’t need to cross an ocean, buy expensive ingredients or cook all day long to bring new flavors into your home – all you need are eggs and a few other ingredients,” says Helmer. “Eggs are versatile and easy-to-prepare, offering moms a wide variety of meal solutions, whether it’s for breakfast or even breakfast for dinner. And, eggs are all-natural and provide the highest-quality protein, so moms can feel good about serving them up to the family.”
Around the World with
The Incredible Edible Egg™
In honor of World Egg Day, Helmer offers these tips for preparing easy egg dishes with flavors that will literally be a passport for your palate:
Love Chinese take-out? Give it a new twist by adding leftovers to omelets or a frittata the next day. For an added splash of Asian flavor, try drizzling a bit of your favorite Asian seasoning – like soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, sesame oil or ginger – on your egg dish.
Turn dinnertime into a fantastic fiesta! Instead of taco shells, fill an omelet with traditional taco fixings and top it with salsa, low-fat sour cream or guacamole. Or roll up scrambled eggs and fajita vegetables in a tortilla for a portable, high-protein energy boost!
Find amore! Make your taste buds sing “That’s amore!” by adding prepared pesto sauce to the eggs beaten for scrambled eggs, omelets, a frittata or quiche. Flavor the dish with other traditional Italian foods, such as prosciutto ham, roasted peppers and mozzarella or provolone cheese.
Love cold pizza for breakfast? Make it a real meal by scraping re-heated pizza toppings into an omelet. Or make an on-the-go breakfast sandwich by putting the pizza toppings and scrambled eggs between two English muffin halves.
